The Orlando Magic could have  – should have – won Game 4 of the NBA Finals. Instead, they didn’t cover Derek Fisher and he sliced their jugular, twice, from behind the arc.

Mark my words: This series is over. Lakers will win on Sunday, in 5, as I originally predicted. But I’m not happy about it. I’d much rather see a great series, one that offers at least 6 games if not a sudden-death 7th. I want to see what Kobe can do when he’s on his heels in a Game 7, with his back to the wall. That’s the only exciting possibility we have left in a series that has thus far featured uninspired play and shoddy officiating.

Sure, last night’s game was a pretty good one. The two Fisher 3’s were a great display of a veteran player coming through in the clutch. But, even so, I couldn’t shake the feeling that the game wasn’t a great Lakers win but rather an awful Magic loss. And that’s no fun. No one wants to watch a Finals game filled with missed free throws and sloppy defense. In the NBA Finals, you want to see great players rising to the occasion and playing at their ultimate best. That’s not what we got last night. Kobe had a decent game (32 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists) but he was a non-factor in crunch time, forcing shots and only passing to his teammates as a last resort. And Dwight Howard, while he picked up 21 rebounds, had only 16 points and didn’t assert himself as an up-and-coming superstar should.

On Sunday night in Game 5, here’s hoping that the stars come out and we’re treated to a hard-fought game, even if the Lakers are most likely going to win in the end.

It’s really not a lot to ask for.
